Since moving to Cornwall 8 months ago I’m learning a new pace - a much slower pace. The sea seems to determine the ebb and flow here. The landscape of change is rugged and smooth with deep wells and heady skies.
The newness of it all, new beginnings, new adventures and a fresh perspective on life. It’s exciting to put a pin in a map and start a trip. A life changing trip.
It’s taken time to start to draw, to pause and begin to capture the essence of the Cornwall I’m discovering. Here is a sketched glimpse of my new adventure to the South West of England. Starting with beautiful Grebe beach on the Helford. This splendid pebble beach not only has the best skimmers available but a fantastic view and this January day was no exception. Whilst Jules sat next to me reading a hefty manual on the mechanics of speakers (!), I took in the scenery of statement pines- such an emblem on the landscape along the South coast.
I love these Monterey Pines - so sculptural. This maybe the UK but I feel transported to the south of France. An earlier sketch captured in the summer with the sun bathing us in its glow and the sea so shiny.
And now to the North coast and Pentire Point overlooking Newquay. Embracing the texture and pattern of the sea against the rocks - all that movement is so enticing. I will be a wild swimmer (one day).
On grey days - there’s been a few this winter! I take refuge in the studio to study the treasure gathered along the seashore. The sea spilling new gems - ready pickings for keen collectors. Each visit reveals exciting possibilities and inspiration.
Making A Change
Moving to a new environment has without doubt been a challenge but not without its rewards. I remember a friend saying that change is only a moment away. This sounds so simple and in reality it is - but deciding to make a change in your life can take a lot of circling around it before stepping forward towards it. Are you circling a change to your life at the moment?
I continue to embrace all that the sea throws up and welcome the chance to discover what’s on the shoreline.
